Victoria Falls love!

Sermon on August 25 by Pastor Roland Eskinazi

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:8-13; Romans 8:31-39

One day even the torrents that cascade down Victoria Falls will stop. Every drop of the 700.000 cubic meters that pour over the edge! But God’s love in Jesus will not…

You are called to:

1. LOVE CONTINUALLY – IN TORRENTS, NOT IN DRIPS!

  • Jesus’ love is for now – and eternity

‘Love never fails = Love never falls’ (v8a)

When everything else is worn out or ends, you cannot outrun or exhaust Jesus’s love
We will not be remembered for our gifts or talents, but ultimately for the quality of our love.

  • Jesus’ love is for the long-haul – and not just the moment
God’s kind of lovers can only be shaped by God’s kind of love.

‘If a man could know that he was loved by his fellowmen; if he could have it for certain that he was loved by all the angels;
yet these were but so many drops. And all put together could not compare with the main ocean contained in the fact that God loves us’
(CH Spurgeon)

2. LOVE CONSCIOUSLY – KNOWING YOU ARE LOVED!
The power to love does not come from flipping a switch, but living in the freedom of God’s never-failing love.

  • His love won’t fail you at the very end of life (Rom. 8:38a)
Jesus live is stronger and deeper than all the combined demonic forces in the world, and even death itself
When you are afraid, when life seems wild or crazy, God’s love has not lost you.
  • His love won’t fail you at every extremity of life (Rom. 8:38b, 39)
Love does not shield us from wilderness times, tough times, stretching times.
When you are sad, or confused, God’s love is not dependent on the circumstances, or your love for Him, but His love for you.

Two applications:
− Make it the business of each day to inform your heart that Jesus loves you
− Make it your practice each day to pursue love (1 Cor. 14:1a)

‘If love is so distinguishable, if it is the very sum of all Christian virtue then surely those who profess themselves to be Christians should live in love and abound in the works of love’
(Jonathan Edwards)
