Glen Smith, our Minister of Worship, recently put up a post on the IBC Music Band website on how to choose songs for worship. Here is a copy for those who don’t visit the band’s website and might want to know more about the principles that guide Glen in choosing songs for each Sunday:
Lately I have been listening to some teachings given by Bob Kauflin (pictured below) entitled “choosing songs wisely”. I have found that as a music minister, I try to employ a lot of these principles at IBC. I thought it would be helful to let IBC know about these teachings, that people may know some of the thought process I go through in selecting songs. when you click on this link, you will be taken to a page where you can download this teaching in mp3 format. “Choosing songs Wisely” is the 4th teaching on the list.
Bob wrote the book “Worship Matters” which the worship band uses to help us think more deeply about what we are doing. I know Bob from my time in Maryland, and he has over 30 years experience in the ministry. I know that there are other helpful resources on the area of worship music as well, so in future I will try to post some of those as well.
No problem Glen, I deduced it was you!
The Lord bless you and the music team as you lead the Lord’s people to the throne of grace this Sunday
Sorry Roland, I was annonymous – just wasnt sure how to use this site:)
Thanks Roland – I am looking forward to you coming.
Great to hear the connection with Bob!
He was recently in Cape Town with CJ Mahaney and Ligon Duncan (Together for the Gospel). I was involved with Bob and grateful for his heart for God, love for the truth and desire for thoughtful worship. Praise God for you Glen and IBC worship leading team!
