Scripture: Proverbs 13:18-22; 21:19-22; 23:26-28

We live in a culture that is confused about gender. What does God teach us about what it means to be a real man?

1. A REAL MAN LOVES JESUS RADICALLY!

Masculinity is not having to prove ourselves before men. It is being devoted to Christ above all else.
‘Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe’ (Prov 29:25)
Men, we cannot leave an inheritance that counts unless we love Jesus first and most
(John 8:42; 1 Cor. 16:22; John 14:15)

2. A REAL MAN LEADS HIS WIFE AND FAMILY INTENTIONALLY!

• Learn to die daily to ‘Mr. Me’
  ‘Many claim to have unfailing love but a faithful person who can find?’ (Prov. 20:6)
  The oneness of marriage is intentional – to directly reflect the oneness of Christ with the church (Eph 5:32,38)
• Aim to treat her dearly, as God treats you
  Men, how many sins does God choose to forgive and overlook because you are in Christ?

• Shepherd your family patiently, without stress
  Real masculinity is being faithful to the Lord, repenting when you are not – and keeping it real.

‘Dad told us that he loved us. I never found porn around the house, or booze, or dirty secrets. We read the Bible. I don’t remember a lot of powerful heart-to-heart conversations. But we knew who we were, where we stood and what to expect.’

3. A REAL MAN DISCIPLINES HIS LIFE, FOR JESUS SAKE!

• Be a ‘no’ man to anything that will strangle you (Prov. 23:26-28)
  Men, do you know the discipline of grace – are you learning to fight the battles in your mind, to say ‘no’? (Titus 2:12)
• Be a ‘yes’ man to what will save you
  Jesus the real man suffered and died so we might say ‘yes’ to purity every time (Titus 2:14)

Remember! Biblical masculinity is not soppy or sentimental, even though it is tender.
We see it best of all in the real man who laid down his life for sinners.
Men, rise up and embrace your calling anew.
Women, pray and encourage the men you know to be such men.
