The Value of Godly Ambition

Sermon on September 16 by Pastor Roland Eskinazi

Scripture: Philippians 3:10-11

’One of the most dangerous forms of human error is forgetting what one in is trying to achieve’

Godly ambition is:

1. FOCUSED ON KNOWING THE PERSON OF JESUS!

‘I want to KNOW Christ…’

When we come to know Jesus, we never stop. Paul’s ongoing desire is to know Jesus;

− Personally,
− Experientially, ‘know’ is the word for intimate knowledge that would shower love and affection on the object
− Progressively.

2. FOCUSED ON KNOWING THE POWER IN JESUS!

‘…and the POWER of His resurrection…’

  • Especially in the challenge to give in to a defeated life
What may need to be dislodged from your life so all of Christ (whose power you already have) may have all of you?
  • Through depending on Jesus’ power and not our own (2 Cor. 4:7)

‘This may be why God has blessed my efforts. The Lord looked down from heaven and said, ‘Where can I find the weakest, littlest, meanest man on the face of the earth. Then he saw me and said ‘Now I’ve found him, I will work through him. He will not be proud of it. He will realize that I am only using him because of his littleness and insignificance’.
(St. Francis of Assisi)

3. FOCUSED ON KNOWING THE PASSION OF CHRIST!

‘…and participation in His SUFFERINGS becoming like Him in His death…’

There is a suffering that we cannot achieve – the exclusive suffering of a perfect Savior to atone for our sins (1 Peter 4:18)
When you write ‘loss’ over the dearest things to you in this world, God may strip you of what you once thought valuable to show how precious He is.

Remember! This is not just for an apostle. It is normal to want to know more of Jesus, His power and His passion.
In this week view everything that happens as the opportunity to know more of Jesus and become more like Him.
